Burning oil smell
Hot-oil smell after driving — often without visible drips — is oil seeping onto the exhaust, and the valve cover gasket is the classic source. Fix it before the drip becomes a smoke show.
Burning rubber
Rubber smell points at a slipping belt or a hose resting on something hot. A glance under the hood usually finds it — and a slipping belt is warning you about whatever is dragging it down.
