Brake Pad Replacement Cost
What owners actually paid
The shaded middle is where half of all these repairs landed: $233 – $573. The price on any one car depends on the vehicle — the table below shows the range for each.
What this repair is
Brake pads are the friction material that clamps your rotors to stop the car — the single most common wear item on a vehicle. A pads-only job is realistic when the rotors are still thick and smooth; caught late, the rotors usually have to be replaced too, which roughly doubles the bill.

What moves the price
- Pad grade — ceramic and OEM pads cost more than economy semi-metallic.
- Rotor condition — pads-only works when rotors are thick and smooth; otherwise it becomes a pads-and-rotors job.
- Hardware and slides — cleaning and lubricating the caliper hardware is what keeps new pads quiet.
Quotes near the low end usually mean economy pads, hardware reused, no rotor service. Quotes near the high end usually mean premium or OEM pads, rotors resurfaced, seized slide pins freed up.
