Car Shaking or Vibrating — What It Usually Is
Vibration diagnosis is about when it happens: at speed, under braking, or at idle. Each has its own short list, and the wheel end dominates.

*Share of visits whose repair involved this part. Combined repairs count toward each
part involved, so shares overlap and don't add up to 100%. Among visits that ended in a parts repair.
†Middle half of real invoices (25th–75th percentile) when this was the only fix — parts + labor, all vehicle types.

Shakes at highway speed
Steering-wheel buzz starting around 60–70 mph is wheel balance first, tire wear or a bent wheel second. If it worsens over weeks, a separating tire belt deserves an immediate look.
Shakes when braking
Vibration only under braking is warped rotors — the pads-and-rotors work that leads all brake outcomes fixes this too.
Shakes at idle
A shudder at stoplights isn't wheels at all: engine misfire or collapsed engine mounts. If the check-engine light flashes with it, treat it as a misfire visit.
