Fuel Filter Replacement Cost
What owners actually paid
The shaded middle is where half of all these repairs landed: $145 – $435. The price on any one car depends on the vehicle — the table below shows the range for each.
What this repair is
The fuel filter strains debris out of the fuel before it reaches the pump and injectors. A clogging filter shows up as hard starting, hesitation under load, or losing power up hills. On diesel trucks it is a scheduled item — often two filters replaced as a pair — which is why diesels dominate this repair's records.

What moves the price
- Gas vs. diesel — diesel trucks run two filters at diesel-part prices.
- Housing — cracked or leaking filter housings add real cost.
- Location — in-tank filters mean tank work — a different job entirely.
Quotes near the low end usually mean single inline filter on a gasoline engine. Quotes near the high end usually mean diesel primary and secondary filters, filter housing replaced, priming a hard-to-bleed system.
