Brake Master Cylinder Replacement Cost
What owners actually paid
The shaded middle is where half of all these repairs landed: $228 – $518. The price on any one car depends on the vehicle — the table below shows the range for each.
What this repair is
The master cylinder converts your pedal push into hydraulic pressure for all four brakes. Its classic failure is internal: the pedal sinks slowly to the floor at a stoplight with no leak in sight. Replacement includes bench-bleeding the new unit and flushing the system — old fluid is often what killed the original.

What moves the price
- Cylinder alone or with booster — some vehicles sell them as one assembly.
- Full bleed — a master cylinder job needs all four corners bled — it's real time.
- Old fluid — moisture-laden fluid is often what killed the seals; a flush is normal here.
Quotes near the low end usually mean master cylinder alone, partial bleed. Quotes near the high end usually mean unit combined with a booster or ABS unit, full flush, seized lines at the cylinder.
