Rusted brake lines
In salt states the steel lines are the headline outcome: they corrode along the frame until one weeps or lets go under hard braking. Shops that find one bad section inspect the rest — lines rust as a set.
Leaks at the wheel
A wet spot inside a wheel points at a caliper seal or, on drum brakes, a wheel cylinder. Both soak the pads or shoes they serve, so friction parts sometimes join the bill.
The warning light
The red brake warning light doubles as a low-fluid light on most vehicles. If it flickers on corners, the reservoir is already low — check it before driving further, and top up only as a way to reach the shop.
