Brake Line Replacement Cost
What owners actually paid
The shaded middle is where half of all these repairs landed: $157 – $396. The price on any one car depends on the vehicle — the table below shows the range for each.
What this repair is
Steel brake lines carry hydraulic pressure from the master cylinder to each wheel. In rust-belt states they corrode until one weeps or bursts — a soft pedal, a fluid puddle, or a pedal that sinks to the floor. Repair means new line sections, fresh fluid, and a full bleed; a shop that finds one rotten line will usually inspect the rest.

What moves the price
- How much line — a short section is cheap; a full run from master cylinder to rear axle is hours of routing.
- Access — lines above the fuel tank or subframe can mean dropping components to reach them.
- Rust as a set — shops that find one rotten line usually recommend inspecting the rest — the others are the same age.
Quotes near the low end usually mean one short section spliced in an accessible spot. Quotes near the high end usually mean long runs along the frame, multiple sections, lines buried above the fuel tank or subframe.
