Car Battery Replacement Cost
What owners actually paid
The shaded middle is where half of all these repairs landed: $148 – $325. The price on any one car depends on the vehicle — the table below shows the range for each.
What this repair is
The battery starts the engine and buffers the electrical system. Most last 3–5 years — less in hot climates. Replacement includes testing the charging system first (a good shop confirms the alternator isn't the real culprit), the battery itself, and terminal service.

What moves the price
- AGM vs. flooded — AGM batteries run well above a standard flooded battery in parts.
- Cables and terminals — corroded ends add parts and time.
- Registration — many newer vehicles need the new battery registered to the car.
- Charging-system test — a good shop confirms the alternator first.
Quotes near the low end usually mean economy battery, charging test skipped. Quotes near the high end usually mean AGM battery for start-stop or heavy accessories, corroded cables, a battery mounted under a seat or fender.
