VVT Solenoid Replacement Cost
What owners actually paid
The shaded middle is where half of all these repairs landed: $242 – $484. The price on any one car depends on the vehicle — the table below shows the range for each.
What this repair is
The variable-valve-timing solenoid meters oil pressure to shift camshaft timing for power and economy. When it sticks — often from overdue oil changes — you get a check-engine light, rough idle, or rattly cold starts. It is usually a modest repair, and fresh oil comes with it.

What moves the price
- One or several — many engines run two to four; codes point to the one that failed.
- Oil — sludge is what sticks them — fresh oil usually comes with the job.
Quotes near the low end usually mean one solenoid on top of the engine. Quotes near the high end usually mean two or more solenoids, oil change with it, solenoids under the intake.
